Methyl rapeseed ester

Description

Methyl ester of rapeseed is a mixture of methyl ester composed of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids C16 to C22. Technically, rapeseed methyl ester is produced by chemical conversion of rapeseed oil, using methanol.

The chemical conversion of refined rapeseed oil with methanol produces a rapeseed methyl ester in the form of a clear liquid, not thick, flammable, not soluble in water that emits a faint odor. It is used as a substitute for diesel (Biodiesel) but the rapeseed methyl ester is also used as a solvent in specialized industries (glues). The main components of rapeseed methyl ester are oleic acid (55-65%), linoleic (18-25%), linolenic (5-11%) and palmitic (5-8%). Other fatty acids form <1% of the product.
